William Hanna (7/14/1910-3/22/2001) , a native of Melrose, New Mexico, and Joseph Barbera (3/24/1911-12/18/2006) , of New York City, first met at the MGM studio in 1939, while working at its animation division, beginning a partnership that would span 6 decades. Their first directorial production and collaboration was the Academy Award-nominated Puss Gets the Boot, featuring a cat named Jasper and an unnamed mouse, released to theaters in 1940. It served as the basis for the popular long-running Tom and Jerry series of short subject theatricals. Hanna and Barbera served as directors of the shorts for over 20 years, with Hanna in charge of supervising the animation and Barbera in charge of the stories and pre-production. From 1943 to 1953 the pair garnered an incredible 12 more Academy Award nominations. When MGM decided to close its cartoon division in 1957, Hanna-Barbera Studios was born with the help of Screen Gems and George Sidney, a live-action director. Harry Cohn, head of Columbia Pictures provided the working capital for the new venture, after receiving an 18% interest in the new studio. It became the first studio to successfully produce cartoons exclusively for television. The ABC smash hit The Flintstones premiered in prime time in 1960. Loosely based on the CBS series The Honeymooners, it was set in a fictionalized stone age of cavemen and dinosaurs. The show ran for an amazing six seasons, becoming the longest-running animated show in American prime time TV history, a ratings and merchandising success and the top-ranking animated program in syndication history until being beaten out by The Simpsons in 1996. It is now considered a classic. This is a 1993 H-B film featuring the wedding of Pebbles (Fred & Wilma’s daughter) and Bamm-Bamm (son of Barney & Betty Rubble). The scene in this cel is from the Bridal Fair exhibition at the Bedrock Convention Center. Fred picks up a purse dropped by a group of wedding muggers (not knowing it was who they were, naturally), and chases after them to return the purse to the lady mugger in charge of the gang. He then trips over Bamm-Bamm and falls face first into the large marble wedding cake display. Most major cards accepted. Framed cels are corner blocked, bubble wrapped and additionally covered in either rigid foam board or rigid cardboard. NOTE: ALL of our framed cels, watercolors, signed books are.
